Bulk Excavation & Land Remediation TESCO's Fareham
HWM Ltd were contracted to do a bulk excavation on an old contaminated site that was originally a Foundry, which had various areas of heavy metal contamination. Our tasks were to ascertain exactly where the contaminated areas and inert areas were situated so the materials could be removed and sent to suitable licensed waste facilities. All contaminated materials were taken to the HWM Ltd special waste treatment facility for processing and recycling, which was successfully achieved.
Stage 1: Ascertain the contaminated areas and how far the contamination had spread
Stage 2: Removal of contaminated materials
Stage 3: Removal of all inert materials
Stage 4: Lay a piling platform
The works of distinguishing and removing the different materials on the site had to be conducted quickly and precisely as Tesco’s required the superstore to be opened as quickly as possible. Local haulage companies were utilised to move on average 100 loads per day. The materials for excavation equated to approximately 25,000 m3 some inert some contaminated. Following HWM Ltd’s successful site remediation techniques which proved to be efficient as well as staying on budget, Tesco’s are building a new superstore with underground parking as well as redeveloping the surrounding infrastructure around Quay Street in Fareham.
